Ecopreneurs turning trash into cash on Lake Victoria
Rapid urbanization and population growth mean plastic waste pollution is clogging vital waterways throughout East Africa.
In western Kenya’s Kisumu region, young people are mobilizing to turn crisis into opportunity. Under the banner of Precious Plastic, they are organizing community clean-up events and recycling garbage into useful objects. The sales from these provide economic opportunities at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has left many unemployed.
